Sporting His Haori

Bill Bensley , 2024

Acrylic on canvas
120 × 120 cm , 47.2 × 47.2 inch

During their time in Bukhara, William would like to don one of the Haori jackets he obtained in Hokkaido before heading out. Of course, he would never leave the house without a fresh fundoshi, and an appropriately paired, colour-matching, samurai helmet, before he and Sammy set out to explore the interior of the many neglected and ruinous places of worship in the center of the city.

One time William didn’t tie the Haori correctly, which left his fundoshi showing unintentionally. Sammy thought this was excellent fun, and had a sly giggle while marking his territory.
