The Hokkaido Castle Canals – Dance First, Think Later

Bill Bensley , 2024

Acrylic on canvas
120 × 200 cm , 47.2 × 78.7 inch

The discovery of so many objects of beauty led Prince William to search the miles of canals and ponds for many more resplendent and enchanting keepsakes which to send home to his archives. With his guide, the haute naturale samurai Captain Banana, he found not only a legion of lanterns to add to his collection, but also sculpted figures, precious stones and kaleidoscopic mosaics to strip and carry away. The selection was so vast – it was a palace after all – he would pause and use his deep, contemplative powers of quiet appraisal, ensuring only the most ideal pieces found their way home. During these intermissions Captain Banana would wander the grounds singing love ballads and casually drop trow in front of the statues.
