BENSLEY SILK ROAD
{ The Silk Road Chronicles of WILLIAM KHAN }

When the whole world stopped travelling…I started to learn about painting from my teacher and good friend Kate Spencer. For me, the pandemic had a shiny silver lining.
My first art exhibition at MOCA (at the Four Seasons Bkk) was in 2023 and it was entitled The Faroese Chronicles, and it was a show of large paintings that chronicled our comical worldwide adventures with our friends from the knitting clubs of the Faroe Islands. My reason for painting is to make people smile if not belly laugh. This coming show at MOCA, opening 6pm, January 10th 2025 will be entitled similarly The Silk Road Chronicles, and will illustrate my adventures as William Khan (b1202-not dead yet) along the Silk Road as the illegitimate but much loved son of Genghis Khan. William, born into a highly violent family and society, but through curiosity and a willingness to explore other cultures with an open mind, learns of a peaceful alternative existence complete with a life partner, their dog and a best friend. I have been working on these pieces for 2 years+ and there are some 39 in total. I employ oil, oil stick, bees wax, acrylic on canvas, wood, paper mache. I promise that this show will be as funny as The Faroese Chronicles. I fund my exhibitions myself as well as the Shinta Mani Foundation of Cambodia, so that 100% of funds raised at the exhibition can be used to support hospitality education of underprivileged young adults, nutrition for newborns, housing for the poorest of families, and conservation of the Cardamom Rainforest.
